Custom Bridal Jewelry
Staci Egan of Contempo Jewelry wrote an article to help you ask
the right questions of a custom jewelry designer. You want to make sure you're speaking the
same language and Staci has some great tips to point you in the right
direction.
If you're thinking about custom designed jewelry for your
wedding - here are some questions to consider:
What do the dresses look like?
If you have them, it helps if you have pictures of your dresses to show the
designer. Samples of the fabric are very helpful too. The style and
neckline of the dress is important when choosing your jewelry. A halter may
look best with chandelier earrings and a bracelet. A deep V-neck looks great
with a lariat.
What do your bridesmaids like?
You want to give them something special. They want something they can wear
again. You can accomplish both! Consider each individual's style. Some women
like long earrings in gold, others like classic pearls; you can definitely mix
it up! I love it when the ladies in the
wedding party have different jewelry, but there is always one coordinating
element to make it a collection. Your jewelry should be unique and personal.
What is your budget?
Knowing your budget will make the project easier. When considering a designer,
look at their prices, this will be help you decide if they are in your budget.
There is a huge range in materials and cost. You need to discuss stones, beads,
type of metals and level of intricacy. That will reflect on your price. It is
general practice with most designers for you to put down a 50% deposit for your
jewelry order, just like you are doing with your other vendors. This will help cover
the cost of the supplies needed for your projects.
When do you need your jewelry?
Your jewelry designer will need to know your time frame. Often, materials need
to be ordered from all over the world and that can take up to two weeks.
Depending on the designer's schedule and the detail of the work, your project
can take several weeks. So make sure you plan accordingly.
