| Hire a Coordinator - Photographer's Perspective |
|
I wish more brides would hire a wedding coordinator. It could make their photographs better. If that sounds ridiculous, please read on. I’ll explain. On the day of a wedding, brides, grooms and their families should be able to relax and enjoy the occasion. They shouldn’t have to worry about details such as where things go and when things happen. When people are relaxed and happy, they smile and laugh, and their joy is reflected in their wedding pictures. When they’re preoccupied or worried, the strain shows – and it will continue to show for 20, 30 or 50 years in the wedding album. Here’s another reason to hire a coordinator: Almost every couple tells me, “The whole day is just a blur.” That’s a shame. A little help might produce more memories. A professional wedding coordinator will ensure that everything goes smoothly, relieving a lot of stress and work for the bride, groom, maid of honor, best man and the families. But please note that I said professional; Aunt Prudence means well, but she lacks expertise. Moms and brides don't realize just how little extra time they’ll have on the wedding day. They think they'll be able to set up the reception site, but they won’t. Also, they don't realize that tunnel vision kicks in on the wedding day. They don't even notice details. So I’ll say it again: Your wedding pictures will be better if you’re not worried about where your brother went, whether the favors are on the tables, who’s doing exactly what and exactly when. You’ll be able to smile – genuinely – for the camera. The bride shouldn’t have to worry about whether to delay the processional because guests are still arriving. She shouldn’t have to ponder when to cut the cake, when to have the first dance, when to serve dinner. A professional coordinator can help smooth delivery and setup times with the florist, musicians, DJ, photographer and caterer/banquet manager. A coordinator can troubleshoot emergencies and soothe nerves. A coordinator can step in as your advocate, conveying your desires to vendors so you can have fun. And if you’re having fun, your photographs will be better. Jan Thiessen is one of Pennsylvania’s most popular wedding photographers.
