You're getting married... here's how to make sure it's legal!

  1. Make sure you're at least 18 years of age. If you're under 18, bring Mom or Dad with you. If you're under 16 years of age, you'll still need the consent of your parents or legal guardian, but a Centre County judge will be evaluating you to make sure the marriage is in your best interest. 16 years old and getting married?! You can't even drive yet! Don't rush into things!
  2. Both you and your fiancee have to be present when applying for the marriage license. No blood test though, no needles - you're safe!
  3. The license is valid for 60 days from when it was issued. That means that you need to officially get married within 2 months of when you got the license - so plan ahead!
  4. If either of you were divorced previously or if a marriage was dissolved by death, make sure you bring your divorce decree and/or the date of death of the previous spouse.
  5. $50 is due at the time of the application (cash, check or money order only - don't make the trip to Bellefonte without making sure you have your $50 the way they like it!)
